Why Choose This Tanzania Safari and Zanzibar Package?

The 9 Days Tanzania National Parks and Zanzibar Beach itinerary gives you three different experiences within one holiday: wildlife viewing, cultural discovery and beach relaxation.

Instead of spending the entire journey travelling between national parks, the itinerary includes enough time to enjoy the Serengeti before continuing to Zanzibar. A domestic flight connects the safari circuit with the island, reducing unnecessary driving and giving you more time at the beach.

Package highlights include:

  • Game drives in three leading wildlife destinations
  • Large elephant populations and baobab landscapes in Tarangire
  • Two nights in the famous Serengeti National Park
  • Big-cat viewing opportunities in Central Serengeti
  • A full Ngorongoro Crater game drive
  • Scenic domestic flight to Zanzibar
  • Stone Town and spice-farm experiences
  • Time to relax beside the Indian Ocean
  • Private safari vehicle and professional guide
  • A choice of mid-range, luxury or premium accommodation

Detailed 9 Days Tanzania National Parks and Zanzibar Beach Itinerary

Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park

Your safari begins after breakfast at your hotel in Arusha. A professional Gowitos Safaris and Holidays guide will meet you, provide a short safari briefing and drive you to Tarangire National Park.

Tarangire is recognised for its ancient baobab trees, seasonal wetlands and impressive elephant populations. During the dry season, animals gather around the Tarangire River and other remaining water sources.

As you explore the park, you may encounter elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, buffaloes, impalas, waterbucks and several primate species. Lions, leopards and cheetahs are also present, although all wildlife sightings depend on natural movement.

You will stop for lunch at a designated picnic area or safari lodge before continuing your afternoon game drive. Later, travel to your lodge or tented camp for dinner and an overnight stay.

Meals: Lunch and dinner
Accommodation: Lodge or tented camp near Tarangire or Karatu

Day 2: Tarangire to Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, depart for Serengeti National Park. Your journey passes through the Ngorongoro highlands before descending onto the open Serengeti plains.

You will enter the park and continue towards the Seronera region, enjoying wildlife viewing along the way. The drive provides your first impression of the Serengeti’s vast grasslands, rocky kopjes and scattered acacia trees.

Central Serengeti supports resident wildlife throughout the year. Possible sightings include lions, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, cheetahs, leopards, hyenas, zebras and many antelope species.

After your afternoon game drive, continue to your selected lodge or tented camp for dinner.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Accommodation: Lodge or tented camp in Central Serengeti

Day 3: Full-Day Serengeti Safari

Wake up in the heart of the Serengeti and prepare for a full day of wildlife viewing.

Morning game drives are rewarding because temperatures are cooler and many animals are active. Your guide will search for wildlife around river valleys, kopjes, grasslands and woodland areas. These different habitats provide shelter and feeding grounds for numerous species.

The day’s route will depend on recent wildlife activity, seasonal conditions and your interests. You may spend time watching a lion pride, searching for a leopard in an acacia tree or observing elephants moving across the plains.

Depending on your travel month, you may also encounter wildebeest and zebra herds associated with the Great Migration. The migration moves throughout the year in response to rainfall, water and fresh grazing, so its precise location cannot be guaranteed.

You can enjoy a picnic lunch in the park or return to your accommodation for a hot meal before continuing the afternoon game drive.

An optional sunrise balloon safari can be arranged at an additional cost and should be booked in advance.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Accommodation: Lodge or tented camp in Central Serengeti

Day 4: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Begin with an early-morning game drive in Central Serengeti. This is another opportunity to search for predators and other animals before leaving the park.

After breakfast or a picnic brunch, travel towards the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Wildlife viewing continues as you cross the Serengeti plains and approach the Ngorongoro highlands.

An optional visit to a Maasai village can be arranged along the way. During the visit, local hosts introduce aspects of Maasai culture, traditional homes, clothing and community life. This activity is optional and normally carries an additional fee.

In the late afternoon, arrive at your lodge near the crater rim or in the Karatu highlands.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Accommodation: Lodge near Ngorongoro Crater or Karatu

Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater Safari and Return to Arusha

After an early breakfast, drive to the crater entrance and descend into Ngorongoro Crater for a morning game drive.

The crater contains grasslands, woodland, wetlands and permanent water sources within a relatively compact area. This variety of habitats supports a high concentration of wildlife.

Possible sightings include lions, elephants, buffaloes, wildebeest, zebras, hippos, spotted hyenas and many bird species. Black rhinoceroses also inhabit the conservation area, but sightings are never guaranteed.

After lunch at a designated picnic site, ascend from the crater and begin the drive back to Arusha. You will arrive in the late afternoon or early evening and check into your hotel.

Meals: Breakfast and lunch
Accommodation: Hotel in Arusha

Day 6: Fly from Arusha to Zanzibar

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Arusha Airport or Kilimanjaro International Airport for your domestic flight to Zanzibar.

The flight provides a convenient connection between Northern Tanzania and the coast. After landing at Zanzibar Airport, a local representative will meet you and transfer you to your hotel.

Depending on your chosen accommodation and flight schedule, you may stay in Stone Town or continue directly to a beach hotel.

The rest of the day is free for relaxation. You can enjoy the hotel facilities, walk along the beach or watch the sunset over the Indian Ocean.

Meals: Breakfast; other meals depend on the hotel plan
Accommodation: Hotel in Stone Town or Zanzibar beach resort

Day 7: Stone Town and Spice-Farm Tour

After breakfast, explore the cultural and historical character of Zanzibar.

Your guided Stone Town tour takes you through narrow streets lined with carved wooden doors, busy markets, historic buildings and small shops. Your guide will explain the town’s complex history and its mixture of African, Arab, Indian and European influences.

You may visit selected historical and cultural sites depending on opening hours and your interests.

The day can also include a visit to a local spice farm. Zanzibar has a long association with cloves, cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg and other tropical spices. During the guided walk, you will learn how different plants are grown, harvested and traditionally used.

After the tour, transfer to your beach resort for a relaxing evening.

Meals: Breakfast; other meals depend on the hotel plan
Accommodation: Zanzibar beach resort

Day eight of your 9 Days Tanzania National Parks and Zanzibar Beach holiday is reserved for relaxation.

Best Time for a Tanzania Safari and Zanzibar Holiday

The 9 Days Tanzania National Parks and Zanzibar Beach package can be enjoyed throughout most of the year.

January to March

These months are generally warm. The southern Serengeti and Ndutu region can be productive during the wildebeest calving season, while Zanzibar offers warm tropical conditions.

June to October

The long dry season is popular for wildlife viewing. Vegetation becomes less dense, and animals often gather near water sources. Zanzibar usually experiences comfortable beach conditions during much of this period.

November to December

Short seasonal rains can bring greener landscapes and fewer visitors. Rainfall commonly arrives in brief periods rather than continuing throughout the entire day.

April and May

These are normally the wetter months. Some camps may close temporarily, but travellers can benefit from green scenery, quieter destinations and seasonal accommodation offers.

Weather and wildlife movements vary from year to year, so conditions cannot be guaranteed.
