A Gowitos Safaris representative will welcome you at the airport and transfer you to your accommodation in Arusha. Depending on your arrival time, you may have the opportunity to unwind and gear up for the adventure ahead. Vibrant Arusha is a hub of safari activities in northern Tanzania and a key stopover for many travelers embarking on their journeys.

Main Destination: Arusha (City)

After breakfast, your Gowitos Safaris guide will pick you up for a 2.5-hour drive to Tarangire National Park, named after the Tarangire River, a key water source for wildlife in the dry season. Known as the river of warthogs, the park is famous for its large elephant herds and also home to giraffes, bushbucks, hartebeests, and predators like lions and leopards. Tarangire is a birdwatcher’s paradise with the most diverse breeding bird species in the world. The park is also dotted with ancient baobab trees, some over a thousand years old. Enjoy a picnic lunch before a game drive and then head to Karatu for your overnight stay, eager for more adventures with Gowitos Safaris.

Accommodation: Africa Safari Karatu (Safari Tent)

After breakfast, you’ll drive into the cooler highlands of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. As you approach Ngorongoro Crater, it appears as though you’ve stepped into a forgotten world. Hidden by the steep volcanic cliffs, this untouched wilderness boasts vast savannahs, scattered acacia woodlands, and shimmering lakes and swamps. The Crater was formed when a massive volcano erupted and collapsed in on itself about two to three million years ago, covering an area of 260 km. Renowned for its geological wonders, the Crater also serves as a natural sanctuary, home to some of the highest concentrations of large mammals on the African continent. As you descend into the Crater, you’ll encounter large herds of wildebeest, zebras, gazelles, and over 500 bird species. It offers one of the best opportunities to spot the rare black rhino. Afterward, you’ll journey through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area on your way to the Serengeti, entering from the southern part of the park.

Accommodation: Land of Nature Camp

The Serengeti is absolutely breathtaking. Its vast, open grasslands provide perfect opportunities for incredible wildlife viewing. The climate and vegetation of the Serengeti have remained relatively unchanged for millions of years. While it’s home to a diverse array of wildlife, the Serengeti is most renowned for the Great Migration. Each year, enormous herds of wildebeest, along with zebras and antelope, follow a continuous route in search of fresh grazing. The migration occurs throughout the year, and knowing where to look makes all the difference! The real question is where the best spots are to witness the animals at a particular time. Along with its famous landscapes, you’ll have a good chance of encountering predators such as lions, cheetahs, and leopards. It’s a truly transformative experience.

In the afternoon, you’ll begin your journey back to Karatu, hopefully encountering more awe-inspiring sights along the way.

Accommodation: Africa Safari Karatu (Safari Tent)

After breakfast, you’ll head to Lake Manyara National Park, a small yet diverse park located 120 km west of Arusha. Everything here is on a grand scale yet compact at the same time. It’s one of the narrowest parks in Africa, but its backdrop is stunning, with the Great Rift Escarpment towering over the western edge of the park. The park’s main feature is the shallow, saltwater lake that expands and contracts with the seasons, providing a home for thousands of wading birds, including flamingos and over 500 other species. You may also encounter baboons and elephants in the dense evergreen forest, and keep an eye out for the famous tree-climbing lions that have gained renown across Africa.

You’ll enjoy a picnic lunch within the park, and after your game drive, you’ll say goodbye to your guide. You’ll be dropped off at your preferred location, such as Arusha, Kilimanjaro Airport, or Arusha Airport. We hope you’ve had a memorable adventure with Gowitos Safaris and Holidays.
